PKR’s Jamaluddin to remain loyal to party? No show @PC

By Neville Spykerman and Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani. | Malaysianinsider | Monday February 02 2009

SEPANG: Behrang Assemblyman Jamaluddin Mat Radzi has denied that he has resigned as a state legislator or from his party PKR.

However he was evasive when asked by The Malaysian Insider if he was going to become an Independent assemblymen.

“Not yet” he said.

Jamaluddin spoke to The Malaysian Insider by phone after he failed to attend a press conference in Pan Pacific Hotel near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) which was scheduled for 4pm.

He said he could not make it because he was having back problems and was seeking treatment in Pahang.

Jamaluddin denied being offered any inducement to cross over to Barisan National (BN) and claimed that he was still loyal to PKR.

“I have not met anybody.” he said.

However he admitted that he had yet to communicate his intention to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin.

Jamaluddin refused to provide an explanation and said he had “no idea” why he had yet to communicate with the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leadership.

Earlier Jamaluddin’s special officer who identified himself as Firdhaus Saharuddin handed out a typed statement signed by the assemblyman to the waiting Press.

In the statement Jamaluddin denied he had tendered his resignation as the Behrang assemblyman and had no plans to do so because he had been elected by the people.

He said he had been on leave in Pahang from the 28 to the 30th of January due to his back problems and denied he had hid or ran away from anyone.

Jamaluddin added that he used the weekend between January 31 and February 1 to rest and was shocked to learn from press reports that he had tendered his resignation.

He said the statements made by the Perak Speaker was without any basis because he was not in Perak at the time and could not have sent the letter to his house.

He said the statement by the Perak speaker has caused unnecessary confusion and should not have happened.

“For now I want to continue my duties and responsibilities as usual.”

He said speculation that he would resign should not surface any longer and he hoped the PR leadership would stop making further statements for political mileage.

The aborted press conference today and Jamaluddin’s subsequent statements have left more questions than answers about his intentions and political status.

Earlier the press were taken on a wild goose chase by Jamaluddin and Changkat Jering Assemblyman Osman Jailu.

While Jamaluddin was schedule to give his press conference at Pan Pacific, Osman was supposed to hold one at the Concorde Hotel in Shah Alam also at 4pm.

However at about 1pm Jamaluddin told The Malaysian Insider that he was not sure if he could make the press conference because he was still in Pahang, undergoing a massage for his back injuries. “I am not sure if I can make it on time but my officers will be there to hand out a statement” he said.

Subsequently the press conference was rescheduled to 3pm and shifted again to 4pm, where the duo was suppose to jointly meet reporters but the meeting never materialised.

Staff at the hotel informed a journalist that the room for the press conference was booked over the telephone anonymously.

They were hoping that the individuals would show up with their credit cards to pay for the conference room, coffee and refreshments which were ordered.
