The Pakatan Rakyat leadership council has sought an audience with the Perak Sultan in a bid to urge him to reconsider his decision to not allow Menteri Besar Nizar Jamaluddin to dissolve the state assembly and call a snap election.
“They will request the Sultan to reconsider given the constitutional crisis and political instability which is a setback for the people of Perak,” said Nga Kor Ming, adding that a letter was sent to the Palace earlier this week.
Either pass a vote of no-confidence or dissolve assembly
If the audience is granted, the three-member Pakatan coalition of KeADILan, DAP and PAS will be represented by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Nizar.
According to Nga, Pakatan will ask for the state assembly to be convened to either pass a vote of no-confidence against Nizar, or alternatively, vote to dissolve the state assembly and pave the way for fresh state-wide polls.
Nga also dismissed rumours that Nizar had wanted to surrender when he was first sacked by the Sultan as propaganda spread by Umno to drive a wedge amongst Pakatan members.
“We are good leaders, but also good followers. If the party agrees to move out, we can move anytime,” Nga said.
His words were backed by PAS spiritual adviser Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who yesterday lamented that some leaders had “succumbed to pressure’, and did not fight even harder to uphold the democratic principles of the coalition.
“Elections are the hallmark of a democratic system. I will be campaigning if health permits,” said Nik Aziz.
