The Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government wants Elizabeth Wong to remain as state executive councillor and Bukit Lanjan assemblywoman, rejecting her offer of resignation two months ago when partially nude pictures of her were circulated.
However, she has yet to reply to the decision made today by Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s administration.
It is understood that Wong will issue a statement later in the afternoon.
“She is a victim of the incident,” Khalid stressed after an executive council meeting today, adding the executive council unanimously agreed that she should remain.
Khalid last month extended Wong’s leave until today as the police have yet to conclude their investigations into the photographs believed to be taken by her former boyfriend.
Wong has been on leave since mid February, after partially nude pictures of her were circulated to the public. The case is still under police investigations.
Her responsibilities under her state government portfolio, tourism and environment, were divided among her executive council colleagues during her leave.
The move to prolong Wong’s leave, for the second time, is seen as a strategic move to avoid a by-elections at her Bukit Lanjan state constituency.
Wong had offered to resign both positions as an executive councilor and as an assemblyman to avoid being a burden to PKR and party insiders said she remains adamant about sticking to her decision.
