EC to decide date for Kuala Terengganu by-election

PUTRAJAYA: The Election Com­mission will meet on Friday to decide the date for the Kuala Terengganu by-election, EC acting chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said.

“The special meeting will set the date for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary constituency by-election.” he said when contacted by mStar, The Star’s Malay news portal yesterday.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant when Datuk Razali Ismail died while playing badmin­ton on Nov 28.

Meanwhile, the Dewan Rakyat has informed the EC of the vacancy of the parliamentary seat, triggering the process for a by-election.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin signed the letter informing the EC of the vacancy. This will be the second by-election after the March 8 general election. The first was the Permatang Pauh by-election on Aug 26.
