KUALA TERENGANU, Dec 21 – Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election on Jan 17, is expected to resign as deputy home minister and as a senator on Jan 5, the eve of nomination for the by-election.
"I will continue to hold the post of deputy minister and, simultaneously, that of senator until Jan 5," he told Bernama.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had yesterday named Wan Ahmad Farid, 46, who is also Kuala Terengganu Umno Division chief, as the BN candidate for the by-election.
The Election Commission has set Jan 6 for nomination and Jan 17 for polling in the by-election, necessitated by the death of the Kuala Terengganu Member of Parliament, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Razali Ismail, on Nov 28. – Bernama
