Terengganu voters, especially from Kuala Terengganu, who are on the haj pilgrimage, will be home in time to exercise their voting rights in the coming parliamentary by-election.
The media operations director for the current haj season, Abdul Rashid Hussein, said the last flight to bring back pilgrims from Terengganu would be on Jan 9, while the polling date for the Kuala Terengganu by-election is Jan 17.
He said the last flight to bring back other pilgrims would be on Jan 12.
"Pilgrims from Kuala Terengganu who have yet to return will still make it to the polls on Jan 17 as the last flight carrying Terengganu pilgrims will land at the Sultan Mahmud Airport, Kuala Terengganu on Jan 9," he said today.
The Kuala Terengganu by-election is being held following the death of MP Datuk Razali Ismail on Nov 28.
Nomination has been fixed for Jan 6.
Abdul Rashid said more than 6,000 pilgrims from Malaysia have returned home from the haj pilgrimage in 19 flights with the first one on Dec 15.
"Three more flights arrive today, at the Bayan Lepas Airport in Penang (6.45am), Senai Airport in Johor (3.10pm) and KL International Airport (8.40pm)," he added.
A total of 26,000 Muslims from Malaysia went on the haj pilgrimage this year.
