KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 15 09 —Malaysianinsider
Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan has refuted allegations that the postal votes for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election have been counted.
He said police took a serious view of the unfounded allegation which had been circulated via the short messaging service (SMS) by irresponsible people as it called into question the transparency of the police and the Election Commission (EC) regarding postal votes.
He said the postal ballots were kept in police lockup and the key was in the custody of the EC officer.
The police were entrusted with guarding the ballots and it was not their job to count the votes.
He also dismissed allegations that police were in cahoots with the BN saying that police did not discriminate against any party contesting in the by-election.
“I have not received any instruction from the top to do anything that can cause problems for the opposition parties,” he added.
Mohd Shukri also that police were investigating a report received yesterday about a misunderstanding between parties contesting in the by-election for which polling falls on Saturday. — Bernama
